FEATURED PROJECT: NBC UNIVERSAL "SPROUT" CHANNEL
I was brought on as freelance Manager of Product Development for Sprout Channel on NBC. They had no existing consumer goods development, so we started from scratch - from child development research and our channel's programming credo - to create the Core Values document. We spent weeks defining what made us tick, and our products feel like "Sprout products". From there, I worked with the Sprout Channel internal team to create the Core Value Icons - a visual language to communicate on a consumer level what we stand for, and what caregivers can expect from our toys and consumer goods.
I worked with a child development expert and observed kids in real-life educational play through Montessori school and whole-family market testing. We then applied the refined visual language and core values to every concept. We created a small core line of products across categories like Plush, Play Sets, Electronic, Wooden Toys, Activities, Outdoor, and Creative Kits, and made sure each item excelled in every important way - educational, ethically/environmentally responsible, child-safe, and just joyful.
From there, a massive partnership between myself, the internal team, branding design experts StyleWorks Creative and licensing experts Big Tent worked to develop a comprehensive consumer goods style guide, look book, brand and marketing strategy, and cross-platform interactive "flagship" products like the Sprout smart tablet (later called Cubby, launched at Walmart), and multiple learning/game apps. Go Sprout!
